I am pleased to share with you a link to an article that was published about my work today on the website ‘IdeasTap’.  IdeasTap is an online magazine for young creative entrepreneurs and artists, offering inspiration, practical advice and links to the creative industry. You can access funding, promote your skills, meet new people and take part in live creative briefs as well as searching new work and opportunities.

Thank you Katie for interviewing me and writing up such a lovely article!

I often find myself doing yoga, drinking tea, learning Korean, and teaching English at one of my favorite little spots 산수다우너 (Sansutea) in Suwon, South Korea. Su-ni, the owner, is the most delightful woman. So sweet. So kind.  She’s also an amazing Yoga instructor, encouraging us to do positions like ‘the bird pose’, a currently impossible pose of balancing our knees on our elbows (!!). After I toppled over a few times, I put it on my mental ‘to-do list’.  Last week I added ‘jump rope for 7 minutes without stopping’ to that list as well, after one of my grade 3 students told me she won the citywide jump roping contest, in which the rules are simple:  You must jump rope for 7 minutes without stopping.

If you’re interested, yoga classes are Monday, Wednesday and Friday at either 10am or 9pm. Sansutea is 2 blocks away from Yongtong Homeplus.   There is a green tea bonding experience afterward. The green tea is wild, handpicked, organic Korean mountain tea.  Tastes absolutely divine!

The other night I brought over my seeming endless piles of grading and ordered dinner.  Su-ni said she either had noodles or pizza.  Let’s just say, I never turn down pizza. Never! But, first I did ask if it had onions or kimchi.  With an answer of  ‘no’ to both questions, Su-ni set off for the kitchen and settled in for a few hours of grading.

Pizza, I wasn’t expecting something so exciting!  The dough was shredded potatoes, like a hashbrown, and piled on top were soft and crunchy veggies, cheese, a little fruit and even a few nuts.  It was delicious!  I’ve never thought about making pizza without dough, even with my allergy to wheat.  Thank You Su-ni!!!

Towards the end of 2009, I was interviewed for Valley Guide, a magazine about what to do in Phoenix, Arizona.  It’s a lovely article about my pinhole photography.

I’ve been reluctant to post it for obvious reasons after you read it. Gary and I are no longer together as the article states.

Enjoy the article here!

Pinhole Self Portrait, Harbor Cove Cafe, Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day

Self Portrait - Harbor Cove Cafe

Pinhole self portrait of Gary and I waiting for our breakfast at Harbor Cove Cafe in Ventura, California.  A beautiful chilly morning by the Ocean.  Oh, how i love California. I also love the x-ray of my chair from when I got up to open and shut the pinhole camera.

Great news!  My pinhole image ‘Pink Flamingo’ was chosen as one of the best pinhole images ever!  Check out the 14 images here.

What are you doing for Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day!  It’s less than a week away!  When I think about my favorite holiday I get super giddy!  It will be my last Sunday in Arizona so I would like to head out into the desert and say goodbye to the city I’ve loved for the last 5 years.

Happy Friday! When I found out today was Friday I really had to look at my iPhone to make sure that was correct.  I’m not sure where the week went! I’ve been quite the busy pinholing bee.

I’ll have new pinhole photographs to post soon, but in the meantime, check out this blog.  Gala Darling has the most delightful blog and on Friday’s she has a series called Carousel.  My pinhole photographs are featured on today’s post.

Thank you sweet Gala! Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Week Two’s Adventure: Face to Face Interview

11 Dec

Week two’s adventure was had on Tuesday: My first face to face interview for a newspaper about my pinhole photographs. I met with Linda McThrall, the editor of Let’s Go.  (I’ll be sure to share the article when it’s published.)  We had tea at Scratch Pastries in Scottsdale and had a very pleasant conversation about pinhole photography, social media, the direction and evolution of journalism and newspapers, and you know, how I wasn’t raised by hippies, but act like I was… tee hee.

I’m eager to see the article! I’m also quite pleased with how easy face to face interviews are.  Week two’s adventure is complete, 50 weeks to go.

The Soop Interview with Pinhole Photographer, Sheila Bocchine

The Soop Interview

This is an interview about my pinhole photography!!! Thanks for checking it out!

Click here to read the whole interview.

The Soop is a site that covers art, culture, fashion, lifestyle, music and trends. We are not trying to take over any news sites that are out there. More to give a voice to the local arts, the cool, the hip, the trendsetters, movers and shakers, but most of all to help grow the community.

If you didn’t see the exhibit that opened last First Friday at The Bragg’s Pie Factory on Grand Ave, you’re in luck!  There will be another opening on November 7th from 6-10pm.  Please come look at some fantastic photography, a beautiful day of the dead installation and ‘Armada 2012′ a spaceship installation (if you came to the exhibit last month, please come again, just to see the spaceship installation, it wasn’t up at the last opening).  The theme of the show is ‘Mysterious: simultaneously arousing wonder and inquisitiveness’.    There will also be amazing live jazz music as well!

Hooray for pinhole photography!
